Turkey Stuffing Recipes

No celebration is complete without some great food, and no food is complete without a stuffed turkey. Here are some recipes that will help you to prepare the perfect stuffing.
Aromas of sage, warm honey, cinnamon, meat, cider, hot chocolate, and wine. All these ingredients are associated with various delicious dishes. As soon as the holidays approach, people think of home cooked food. Apple pie, sweet potatoes, and stuffed turkey. Here are some delectable stuffing recipes that you can prepare at home.

Basic Method

Ingredients
  • Butter, ½ cup
  • Onion, 1 (chopped)
  • Celery Stalks, 2 (chopped)
  • Garlic Cloves, 6 (minced)
  • Salt, 2 tsp.
  • Thyme, 1 tsp.
  • Rosemary, 1 tsp.
  • Sage, 1 tsp.
  • Black Pepper, 1 tsp.
  • Savory, ½ tsp.
  • Parsley, 1 tbsp. (dried)
  • Poultry Seasoning, 1 tbsp.
  • Stale Broken-up Bread, 8 cups
  • Poultry Stock, 3 cups
Preparation
  • Take a large skillet and melt butter in it. To this melted butter add all the ingredients except the bread and stock.
  • Cook on medium heat keeping the pan covered till the onions are well cooked and become soft.
  • Remove the cooked mixture and add it to a mixing bowl along with the bread and stock.

Traditional Method

Ingredients

  • French Bread, 1 loaf (which has been cut into small cubes to fill about 10 to 12 cups)
  • Walnuts, 1 cup
  • Onions, 2 cups
  • Celery, 2 cups
  • Butter, 6 tbsp.
  • Green Apple, 1 (peeled, cored, and chopped)
  • Raisins, ¾ cup
  • Green Martini Olives, 10
  • Giblet Stock, 3 cups
  • Fresh Parsley, ¼ cup (chopped)
  • Sage, 1 tsp. (ground)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste (ground)
Preparation

  • To make the stock, take the heart, gizzard (giblets), and neck and put them in a pan filled with water and salt. Let this simmer for 50 to 60 minutes in an uncovered pan. Once the stock is cooked, strain it into a container and let it rest for some time.
  • Take the walnuts and toast them in a frying pan on high heat for a few minutes. Stir them till they get browned and be careful that they don't get burned. Allow them to cool and then crush them.
  • Take a pan and put it on medium heat. Take 3 tbsp. butter and melt it in a pan. To this melted butter add the bread cubes and stir, so that the bread gets completely covered with butter. Toast the bread cubes and let them become brown.
  • Take another pan and sauté the chopped onions and celery in 3 tbsp. butter, for 10 minutes. Add the bread and walnuts along with green apple, currants, olives, parsley, and raisins. Add 1 cup giblet stock to this mixture, as this is needed to make the stuffing moist. Add the sage, poultry seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  • Now turn the heat to a low setting, cover the pan and let it cook for 1 hour, till the apples get completely cooked. Keep checking every 10 minutes and add more stock for moistness, and also to avoid sticking or burning.

With Bread

Ingredients

  • Bread Cubes, 10 cups
  • Butter, ½ cup
  • Onion, 1 cup (chopped)
  • Celery Leaves, ½ cup (chopped)
  • Salt, 1 tsp.
  • Pepper, ½ tsp.
  • Poultry Seasoning, 2 tsp. (a mixture of sage, savory, thyme, and marjoram)
  • Chicken Stock, 3 cups
Preparation

  • Melt the butter in a pan.
  • Add onions and celery in the butter and sauté till it becomes golden and soft.
  • To this mixture add the breadcrumbs and seasonings.
  • If you want your stuffing to be moist, then keep adding chicken or giblet stock or broth.
  • Your stuffing is now ready. All you have to do is stuff the turkey and roast it.
