Tequila Shots

Rujuta Borkar

The perfect recipe for the perfect evening―tequila shots! Want to know more about this drink and what you can do with it? Perfect. Let's go then.
A typical Saturday night party at Randy's goes something like this. People walk in all sober, munching on chips and circling around the pool side, and then a voice bellows over the bar "Tequila Shots!!" That's Randy. His feet firmly placed on the bar (although they won't be for much long).
That 'Liquor Cry' (much like a war cry) is what starts the party scene... that is our cue to line up near the bar, armed with a slice of lemon and salt and... down a few tequila shots!
If you've been a part of a party circuit and never downed a tequila shot... What are you doing?! It's high time you did some. Don't know how to do these shots? Just read and learn, and then go apply! A shot is usually downed straight, without mixing it with a mixer. So it hits pretty fast and makes for one hell of a buzz.

How to do Shots

Whenever you do tequila shots, make sure to have some wedges of lime and salt. The salt will help to enhance the taste and the lemon will make up for the harshness of the drink since it is taken in straight.
  • Pour some tequila into a shot glass.
  • Now, lick the area which joins the thumb and index finger to make it wet.
  • Put some salt over it so that it sticks.
  • Next, hold a wedge of lemon slice in the same hand.
  • On the count of 3, lick the salt and down the tequila.
  • Down the shot in one go. Tilt your head back while doing the shot.
  • Bite on the lemon wedge.
And that my friend is how to drink tequila like a shot.

Types of Shots

There are mainly two types of tequila shots:
  1. One which can be had in a shot.
  2. Those which should be sipped.
Many companies make almost all types of these shots which include Anejo, Reposado, and Blanco among others. They come in several colors like gold, silver and coffee―because of the different ways in which they are treated and distilled.

The Patron Silver

The Patron Silver is a favorite among people who prefer to sip their shots. It is considered to be the cognac of tequila because of its smoothness. The types of Patron are anejo, reposado, and blanco, along with some others. Though these shots should be sipped to get the maximum out of them, having the patron in shots has become all the rage at bars these days. These shots are chilled and downed.

Jose Cuervo Gold

The Jose Ceurvo is a preferred shot choice. It is not as smooth as the other one and has a bite to it. It is therefore ideal for people who do not want to necessarily enjoy the taste of the drink but instead simply get a buzz out of it. The types of Cuervo are anejo, reposado, and blanco.
