If you want to prepare a healthy meal in very less time, then a steamed vegetables recipe is the best option for you. Steaming vegetables is very easy and requires hardly 30 minutes. All you need to do is, simply cut your favorite vegetables, place them in a saucepan or a steamer basket with water, and steam them for sometime.
Eating bland steamed vegetables can be quite boring, so you can use spicy seasonings like mayonnaise sauce or soy sauce.

Recipe #1

Ingredients
  • Fresh broccoli florets - 2 cups
  • Melted unsalted butter - ¼ cup
  • Poppy seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1/8 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/8 teaspoon
  • Pepper - ¼ teaspoon
  • Grated Parmesan cheese - ⅓ cup
Procedure
To prepare this steamed vegetables recipe, take a steamer and place the broccoli florets in it. Pour water in the steamer and cover the steamer to cook. Cook the broccoli for about 6 minutes and then drain the excess water from it. Then, take a medium-sized bowl and combine poppy seeds, salt, paprika, pepper and melted butter.
Now, simply toss the steamed broccoli in the butter sauce and sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the yummy healthy steamed vegetables.

Recipe #2

Ingredients
  • Large head cauliflower (cut into florets) - 1
  • Mayonnaise - 1 cup
  • Dry Italian salad dressing mix - 1 package
  • Grated Parmesan cheese - ½ cup
  • Large carrot (peeled, shredded) - 1
Procedure
First, place the steamer basket over a saucepan and bring water to boil. Then, place the cauliflower florets in it and steam the vegetables for about 5 minutes. After that, drain the excess water and transfer the cauliflower to a large bowl. In another bowl, combine Italian salad dressing, grated Parmesan cheese and mayonnaise.
Then, add raw carrots to steamed cauliflower and toss these vegetables with the mayonnaise mixture. Let the vegetables get coated properly with the mayonnaise sauce, cover the bowl and place it in the refrigerator to chill. Remove the steamed vegetables after two hours and serve.

Ingredients
  • Medium artichokes - 4
  • Butter (melted) - ½ cup
  • Basil pesto - 3 tablespoons
  • Italian seasoned bread crumbs - ¼ cup
Procedure
Take the artichokes and trim the stems properly, also remove the small leaves present at the bottom of the artichokes. Then, cut off the top of artichokes to make a flat surface. Take a large pot and add two cups of water to it and insert a steamer basket in the pot. Add the cut artichokes to steamer basket, cover with a plate and bring the water to boil.
Let the artichokes steam in the boiling water for about 15-20 minutes. Meanwhile, take a bowl and combine basil pesto and melted butter in it. Once the artichokes get steamed properly, transfer them to a large bowl. Then, pour the butter mixture over the steamed artichokes and toss them properly. Sprinkle the Italian seasoned bread crumbs over the coated artichokes and serve immediately.

Ingredients
  • Fresh broccoli florets - 1½ cups
  • Small carrot (julienned) - 1
  • Sliced celery - ¼ cup
  • Sliced water chestnuts - 3 tablespoons
  • Water - 1 tablespoon
  • Butter - 1 tablespoon
  • Soy sauce - 1½ teaspoons
  • Sesame seeds (toasted) - ¾ teaspoon
Procedure
This is a very simple steamed vegetables recipe that requires very less time. First take a small saucepan and add broccoli, cubed carrot, celery, water chestnuts, soy sauce and water. Bring the mixture to a boil, cover the saucepan with a plate and let the mixture steam for about 6 minutes.
Then, simply transfer the steamed vegetables to a large bowl and sprinkle sesame seeds over the mixture.
Steamed vegetables calories are very less and hence they make some of the best foods for calorie conscious people. But, make sure that while steaming the vegetables, you do not steam them for longer time. Steaming them for a long time, causes loss of important nutrients present in the vegetable.
