Leftover ham bone with meat attached, 1 lb.
Dried split peas, 1 lb.
Chopped carrots, 1 cup
Chopped onions, 1 cup
Minced garlic, 2 cloves
Freshly ground black pepper, 2 tsp.

Directions for Preparation
Place the ham bone having sufficient amount of meat in a crock pot, add water up to the required level, cover lid and cook at low setting for about 8 hours. Or else, simmer it overnight. Next day, turn off heat and allow it to cool down.
Remove the attached meat and cut into bite size pieces. You can discard bone, cartilage, and fatty part. Return the cut ham meat to the pot and add dried split peas, carrot, onion, garlic, black pepper, and salt.
Cover and cook in medium setting for about 2 hours. Mash the cooked peas for a thicker soup. This is how you can make the best split pea and ham soup in crock pot. Pour soup in serving bowls, garnish with flavorful herbs and serve hot.

Ham bone, 1 (with adhering meat)
Salt pork, ¼ lb.
Dried split green peas, 1 (16 oz.) bag
Large onion, 1 (finely chopped)
Medium carrots, 2 (peeled and finely diced)
Minced fresh garlic, 1 tbsp.
Large bay leaf, 1
Oil, 2 tbsp.
Chicken broth, 4 (14 oz.) cans
Water, 2 cups
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions for Preparation
Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add onions and sauté for 2-3 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and sauté for another 3 minutes, or until soft. Gently pour chicken broth and water. Bring to a boil and add the ham bone, salt pork, dried split peas, and bay leaf.
Reduce heat to medium low and simmer for about 2 hours or till soup thickens. Stir in diced carrots, salt, and pepper. Take out cooked ham bone and pull adhering meat. Tear it into smaller pieces, and return the bone as well as meat to the soup. Cook further for 5-8 minutes. Remove soup from heat, pour into soup bowls and serve.
