Some Sweet and Salty Snacks You Must Try

Whether you are craving for something sweet or savory, there are many snacks that you can rustle up in a jiffy. Here, we bring to you a selection of sweet and salty snacks that you can easily make at home.
Individuals from all age groups have a penchant for snacks, be it sweet or salty. Some may have a sweet tooth whereas others have a savory preference. Though snacks are usually considered to be junk food, there are a number of healthy snacks as well. Apart from being enjoyed as something to be eaten in between meals, snacks can also be served at parties.
Here are some quick snack recipes for both sweet and salty snacks which can be easily made at home. These snack recipes can be prepared from ingredients that are available in your pantry and refrigerator.

Savory Snacks

Bite Sized Bacon Wrapped Jalapeños

Ingredients
  • 15 medium-sized Jalapeños
  • Bacon slices
  • ½ cup cream cheese
  • Toothpicks
Method
To make these tasty bacon wrapped jalapeños, first wash the jalapeño peppers in water and pat them dry with a kitchen towel. Wear rubber gloves and then slit the peppers into half, along the length. With the back of a small spoon, remove the seeds and the white membrane from inside the jalapeños.
Allow the cream cheese to soften and fill each jalapeño half with cream cheese. Wrap a slice of bacon over each cream cheese filled jalapeño halves and secure with toothpicks.
Once you are done filling each jalapeño half with cream cheese and wrapping them up with bacon slices, place them in a single layer in a greased baking tray and bake them in a 375º F oven for around 15-20 minutes. When the bacon slices turn golden brown in color, remove the jalapeños from the oven and serve immediately.

Homemade Potato Chips

Ingredients
  • 4 large Yukon potatoes
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon of freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
Method
Wash and clean the potatoes and cut them into 1/8 inch thick slices, without peeling them. Place all the potato slices in a medium-sized bowl and season them with freshly ground black pepper. Add a drizzle of olive oil (around 2 tablespoons) and toss the potato slices until they are well coated with pepper and olive oil.
Coat a baking tray with oil and place the potato slices in a single layer over the baking tray. Bake them in a 450º F oven for 20-25 minutes until the potato slices turn golden brown in color and crisp around the edges. Remove the homemade potato chips in a platter and sprinkle with sea salt before serving.

Chicken Wings

Ingredients
  • 8-10 chicken wings
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 4 tablespoons hot chili sauce
  • ½ teaspoon sesame oil
  • 4 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • ½ tablespoon finely grated lime zest
Method
In a large bowl, mix together hoisin sauce, honey, hot chili sauce and grated lime zest. Reserve half of this marinade into a small jar and add the chicken wings to the rest of the marinade in the bowl. Toss the chicken wings in the marinade thoroughly and cover the bowl with a cling film.
Place the chicken wings in the refrigerator for about 2 hours. Arrange the wings in a shallow baking tray and brush the rest of the reserved marinade over the wings. Bake them in a 425º F oven for 20-25 minutes, until the chicken is cooked through and they are deep brown in color.

Sweet Snacks

Date and Almond Balls

Ingredients
  • 12 dried dates (pitted)
  • 12 unsalted almonds
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 2 tablespoons shredded coconut (unsweetened)
Method
In a food processor, process the dried dates and almonds until it is finely ground. Add the cinnamon powder to this mixture and transfer this mixture into a small bowl. Take a tablespoon of this mixture in your hand and form small balls with them.

In a platter spread the shredded coconut and roll the date and almond balls into it, making sure that they are evenly coated with shredded coconut.

Chocolate Granola Cookies

Ingredients
  • 10 granola bars
  • ¼ cup chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • ¼ cup peanut butter
  • ¼ cup milk
Method
Place the granola bars inside a zip lock bag and then bash the bag with a rolling pin. Pour out the crumbled granola into a large bowl and keep it aside. In a medium-sized saucepan, warm the milk and add the butter into it. When the butter is melted, add the chocolate chips and sugar and stir continuously with a wooden spoon until the mixture becomes thick.
Remove mixture from heat and add the peanut butter into it, stirring continuously to remove any lumps. Add this mixture to the crumbled granola and stir well. Line a baking tray with a waxed sheet and scoop out a tablespoon of the granola mixture into the sheet.
lay the rest of the cookies in the same way. Let the cookies cool down for a bit and then wrap the baking tray with a cling film and refrigerate the cookies for 2-3 hours before serving.

Honey Roasted Pecans

Ingredients
  • 1½ cup pecans
  • 1½ tablespoons honey
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
Method
In a waxed lined baking tray, spread out the pecans in a single layer and roast them in a moderately hot oven for 6-7 minutes. Remove the baking tray from the oven and drizzle them with honey. Roast the pecans for 15-20 minutes until the honey caramelizes. Remove the pecans from the tray and allow them to cool before serving.
