I am of the opinion, that skinny pancakes taste better as compared to the thick pancakes. In this write-up, find some easy skinny pancake recipes, which I often use to make pancakes for breakfast.
What we now call skinny pancakes have been around for long, but have been known as Crêpes. The word Crêpes is French in origin, and is derived from the Latin word Crispa, which stands for curled. They actually originated in the Brittany province of France. They are widely eaten all over France, and are often considered as the national dish of France.
They are very thin pancakes, which are made using wheat flour. Traditionally, Crêpes are served with cider in the Brittany province. However, they may also be served with a wide variety of fillings as well. We will see the trick to make thin pancakes, and also a skinny pancake recipe.

Tricks to Make Skinny Pancakes

Although they are easy to make, most people find it difficult to make skinny pancakes. This is due to the fact that they are not able to make thin pancakes, which actually is the main characteristics of Crêpes.
The first important trick is to heat the frying pan, before the batter is poured onto the frying pan. The next trick is to make a thin liquid batter. Grease the hot frying pan with butter and pour the thin batter onto the pan.
Now either using a thin pan or plate, spread the batter evenly on the pan, or tilt the pan and spread the batter. When the pancakes are almost done, you will see that they will release from the sides, and you can either fill in the fillings or spread the toppings of your choice on the pancakes, and serve hot.

Best Thin Pancake Recipes

Simple Thin Pancake Recipe

This is one of the simple pancake recipes, which can be used when you are running out of time in the morning. With this recipe in hand, you will never go to work without breakfast.
Ingredients
  • 1 cup wheat flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup low fat milk
  • sugar as per taste
  • a dash of nutmeg powder
  • butter for greasing the skillet
Preparation
In a mixing bowl, beat the egg and add milk to it. Gradually add flour and continue to stir, ensuring no lumps are formed. At last add sugar and nutmeg to the mixture, and stir well again. Heat the skillet and grease it with butter.
Pour one ladle of batter on the skillet and spread the batter on the skillet, and let the pancake cook. Once it is ready, flip it over to the other side. After the other side is ready, flip over again and spread toppings or fillings on the pancake, and serve hot.

Traditional Thin Pancake Recipe

We have just seen a simple recipe to make pancakes. Here is the traditional recipe which has been used a lot to make pancakes.
Ingredients
  • 1½ cup wheat flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cup milk
  • 3 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 3 tbsp melted butter
  • ½ tsp salt
Preparation
Beat the eggs in a mixing bowl. Once fluffy and light, add milk and flour to the eggs and stir well. Add sugar, baking powder, melted butter and salt to the mixture, and stir well again. Heat the skillet and grease it with cooking spray.
Spread a ladle of batter on the skillet and spread the batter to make a thin pancake. Let it cook till golden brown in color and then flip over to the other side. Once ready, remove from the skillet and serve hot.

Vegan Skinny Pancake Recipe

When talking about skinny pancake recipes, you will see that most of them make use of eggs. In other words, vegans cannot use these recipes, but that does not mean they will have to go without pancakes. Here is a recipe to make thin vegan pancakes.
Ingredients
  • 1 cup wheat flour
  • ½ cup soy milk
  • ¼ cup melted soy margarine
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ tsp salt
Preparation
In a mixing bowl, combine wheat flour with soy milk, water, sugar, maple syrup, salt and half quantity of soy margarine. Cover the bowl and place in the refrigerator for about 2 hours. Remove the mixture from the bowl. Heat the skillet and grease it with soy margarine.
Pour about one ladle of batter onto the skillet and spread the batter to make a thin pancake. Let it cook on this side, before you flip it over to the other side. Serve hot.
These were some of the pancake recipes using which you can make skinny pancakes. Although all the recipes make use of wheat flour, you may use all-purpose flour to make the pancakes as well. The sugar in the recipes can be replaced with honey or maple syrup, depending on your choice.
