Fun Fact
The Kraken is a black spiced rum produced in the Caribbean country of Trinidad and Tobago. Launched in 2010, the rum is mixed with as many as 11 spices such as cinnamon, clove, and ginger to give it the special taste.

On 26 January 1808, the Australian government was overthrown after what came to be popularly known as the ‘Rum Rebellion’. The rebellion took place after the then governor outlawed rum as a bartering commodity.

From 1655 to as recently as 1970, Grog was the regular part of British Navy rations. Grog is the blend of rum, water, lemon juice, and brown sugar, and is believed to stave off scurvy.

Central and South American regions produce special kinds of alcoholic beverages known as Aguardiente. The rum from that region is called Cane aguardiente and contains between 38% and 54% alcohol.

Interesting fact
The gold or amber rum is stored in oak barrels for aging. It is from lying in these barrels for extended periods of time that it gets its peculiar color. Sometimes, caramel is also added to it for enhanced flavor, which contributes to its coloration too.

Truth be told …
Rum is produced from ingredients, which are the by-products of sugar production without any kinds of grains involved. Therefore, all rums are gluten-free. As it is, all gluten, if any is removed during the distillation process.
