Originally from the island of Cuba, it is one of the most famous rum based cocktails in the world. Its ingredients differ with the several versions of mojito consumed all over the world today. A traditional recipe consists of white rum, sugar cane juice, lime, spearmint (a light variety of mint found in Cuba) and water. It is a favorite summer cocktail. How to Make a Mojito

Let's have a look at the traditional recipe. You will need:
Ingredients
  • Fresh Mint Leaves
  • Angostura Bitters
  • White Rum
  • Limes Quartered
  • Sugar Cane Juice (Guarapo)
  • Soda
  • Crushed Ice
Preparation
  1. Muddle 6 mint leaves, 4 drops bitters and 3 limes quarters in a tall cocktail shaker.
  2. Fill the shaker with ice and add 2 oz. of light rum.
  3. Fill the shaker with sugar cane juice (guarapo) leaving ½ inch gap at the top of the shaker.
  4. Fill the ½ inch gap with soda.
  5. Shake vigorously for few seconds. Pour the mixture into a tall mojito glass. Garnish it with lime wedge and sugarcane stick.

Cuban Mojito Recipe

Ingredients
  • Powdered Sugar, 1 tsp.
  • Mint Leaves, 4
  • Fresh Lime Juice, 1 cup
  • Soda, 2 fl. oz.
  • Twig of Mint, 1
  • Havana Club White Rum, 2 fl. oz.
  • Crushed Ice
Preparation
  1. Put the mint leaves in to a long mojito glass and pour some lime juice over it.
  2. Add powdered sugar, then gently smash the mint leaves and sugar into the lime juice with a muddler. If you don't have a muddler you can also use a spoon or a fork.
  3. Add crushed ice, rum and soda. Stir all the added ingredients well and garnish it with a mint twig.

Bacardi Mojito Recipe

This is a stimulating beverage. Bacardi is a rum based alcoholic drink from Cuba. Bacardi rum is made from molasses. Molasses is mixed with fresh ground water and a yeast agent, which helps the molasses turn into alcohol.
The alcohol is then filtered with charcoal to remove impurities. The flavor of different types of rum is determined by distillation method and yeasts used for fermentation.
Ingredients
  • Bacardi, 1 oz.
  • Sugar, 2 tsp.
  • Lime Juice, 1 oz.
  • Some Mint Leaves
Bacardi Mojito Instructions

Mix all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker and pour it into an unusually shaped mojito glass. Add crushed ice and garnish it with a lime slice. Your drink is ready to be served.

Strawberry Mojito Recipe

It's a refreshing drink for a hot summer day.
Ingredients
  • Powdered Sugar for Rimming
  • Large Limes, (Quartered) 2
  • Mint Leaves, 6
  • Strawberries (Quartered), 7
  • White Sugar, 1 cup
  • White Rum, 1 cup
  • Soda, 2 cups
  • Ice Cubes, 8 cups
Preparation
  1. Pour some sugar into a small, shallow plate. Rub one of the lime quarters around each mojito glass. Dip the rim of the glasses in sugar and keep them aside.
  2. Squeeze all the lime quarters into a cocktail shaker.
  3. Put the juiced limes into the pitcher along with mint leaves, strawberries and 1 cup sugar.
  • Crush all the ingredients with a muddler to release the juice of strawberries and oil from mint leaves.
  • Add rum and soda, and stir the mixture until the sugar gets completely dissolved.
  • Pour into the sugared mojito glasses and serve with crushed ice.
