Mai Tai is a very popular drink. Over time, many variations of this cocktail have come up, but there are still some basic ingredients used. This story lists these ingredients as well as some great recipes you could try.
Mai tai is a refreshingly popular drink, enjoyed at most parties. There are many variations of this drink using a combination of different ingredients. Here is a list of the ingredients which are used in the traditional recipe.
  • Rum (either light or dark)
  • Orange curacao
  • Rock candy syrup
  • Orgeat syrup
  • Freshly squeezed lime juice
These days, new variants of the original cocktail are coming up. The new recipes either substitute or add new ingredients.

Mai Tai Cocktail

Ingredients:
  • 2 ounces white rum
  • 2 ounces dark rum
  • 1½ ounces orange curacao
  • ½ ounce amaretto
  • 1 ounce lime juice
  • 1½ ounces apricot brandy
  • 1 ounce pineapple juice
  • Ice cubes
Directions:
In a cocktail shaker, pour all the ingredients and shake vigorously for a couple of minutes to combine them well. In a tall glass, place crushed ice and decorate it with a cocktail umbrella pierced with a pineapple wedge and a grape. Pour the drink into the glass and you're done.

Blue Hawaiian Mai Tai

Ingredients:
  • 2 ounces light rum
  • 2 ounces blue curacao liqueur
  • 1 ounce cream of coconut
  • 1½ ounces pineapple juice
  • 1 slice pineapple
  • 1 cherry
  • Ice cubes or crushed ice
Directions:
Place the ingredients in a blender jar and blend at a high speed. Add the cream of coconut and continue to blend until smooth. Take a highball glass and pour the drink into it. Garnish with the pineapple slice and cherry.

Conventional Mai Tai

Ingredients:
  • 3 ounces dark rum
  • 2 ounces light rum
  • 1½ ounces pineapple juice
  • 1½ ounces orange juice (no pulp)
  • 1¼ ounces sweet n' sour mix
  • 1 ounce triple sec
  • ½ ounce grenadine
  • Crushed ice
Directions:
Pour all the ingredients in a pitcher and stir to combine them. Pour into glasses and use a lemon slice and mint sprig as garnish.

Pineapple Mai Tai

Ingredients:
  • 5 ounces pineapple juice
  • 4 ounces orange juice
  • 1 ounce dark rum
  • 1 ounce gold rum
  • 1 ounce light rum
  • ½ ounce fresh lime juice
  • ½ ounce grenadine
  • 1 ounce triple sec
  • ¼ ounce almond syrup
  • Ice cubes
Directions:
Add the ice cubes and the rest of the ingredients to a shaker. Close the lid and shake it for about two minutes. Once all the ingredients have combined, transfer the drink to a tall glass. Add a few ice cubes and garnish with a pineapple slice and a cherry.

Spiced Mai Tai

Ingredients:
  • 3 ounces spiced rum
  • 2 ounces coconut-flavored rum
  • 1½ ounces orange juice
  • ¼ ounce grenadine syrup
  • 1½ ounces pineapple juice
  • 1 teaspoon sugar syrup
  • Ice cubes or crushed ice
  • 1 slice grapefruit
  • 1 maraschino cherry
Directions:
Prepare the glass in which you will be serving this cocktail. Pierce the grapefruit and cherry with a toothpick, and place a colorful straw in the glass just to make it attractive. Combine the ingredients and shake them in a cocktail shaker. Empty the contents into the prepared glass and add a couple of ice cubes. Float a mint sprig and enjoy.
