Termed as one of the most popular American 'comfort' food, the following story will give you some interesting Macaroni and Cheese Recipes.
When you make macaroni and cheese at home, it is usually a simple layer of cooked macaroni, topped with shredded or sliced layer of cheese, seasoned with salt, and pepper.
To make the dish more appetizing, you could add chopped vegetables or any form of meat, along with a few herbs and spices. But, if you really want to be innovative, here are some recipes that will help you to add a new zing to the traditional recipes.

Macaroni and Cheese with Bacon

Ingredients
  • Uncooked Elbow Macaroni, 2 cups
  • Bacon, ¼ lb.
  • Evaporated Milk, 1 cup
  • Worcestershire Sauce, 1 tsp.
  • Grated Onion, 2 tbsp.
  • Flour, 3 tbsp.
  • Butter, 2 tbsp.
  • Cheddar Cheese, 6 oz. (shredded)
  • Salt & Pepper, to taste.
Directions
  • Cook the macaroni in boiling salted water, as per the directions provided. Drain the cooking liquid into 2 cups. Add a little water if required.
  • Fry the bacon and drain off all the fat after keeping 1 tbsp. of it aside.
  • In the cooking liquid, add the bacon fat and butter, and set it on medium flame. Stir in the flour and then the evaporated milk with 2 cups of water.
  • Stir the mixture continuously till it starts boiling.
  • Season the mixture with salt, pepper, onion, and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Add cheese and heat the mixture slowly till it melts.
  • Now add the macaroni and heat till the entire mixture becomes piping hot.
  • Serve hot with crumbled bacon on top.

Macaroni and Cheese Croquettes

Ingredients
  • Leftover Cheese and Macaroni
  • Eggs, 2 (beaten)
  • Bread Crumbs, 1 cup
  • Oil, (for deep-frying)
Directions
  • Heat the oil for deep frying the bread.
  • Shape the macaroni and cheese into small balls. Dip these balls into the bread crumbs, beaten eggs, and then the crumbs again.
  • Now, drop the balls carefully into the oil and fry it for a minute or till they turn deep brown in color. Remove the croquettes on paper towels and drain the excess oil.
  • Serve them hot with tomato sauce.

Macaroni and Cheese with Tuna

Ingredients
  • Uncooked Elbow Macaroni, 8 oz.
  • Cream of Mushroom Soup, 1 can
  • Tuna, 1 cup (flaked and dried)
  • Milk, ¾ cup
  • Cheddar Cheese, 3 cups (shredded)
  • Salt & Pepper, to taste
Directions
  • Cook the macaroni in boiling salted water as per the directions provided on the package.
  • Add the cream of mushroom soup, milk, tuna, pepper, salt, and 2 cups of shredded cheese. Mix the entire mixture.
  • Transfer the mixture to a shallow and lightly buttered baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the dish and bake for about 40 minute at 350° F.

Macaroni and Cheese with Green Chilies

Ingredients
  • Cooked Macaroni, 6 cups
  • Cheese Sauce Mix, 2 packages
  • Onion, 1 cup (diced)
  • Cheddar Cheese, 3 cups (shredded)
  • Milk, ¾ cups
  • Green Chilies, 1 can
  • Butter, 4 oz.
Directions
  • In a medium-sized sauce pan, make the cheese sauce as per the directions provided.
  • Add cheese along with the diced green chilies.
  • In a small frying pan, sauté the onion in butter, until it turns golden brown in color.
  • Add the onion in the cheese sauce and mix well.
  • Spread the pre-cooked macaroni in a casserole dish and mix it with the cheese sauce.
  • Top the casserole with remaining cheese and bake for 30 minutes at 350° F.
