It can get tough to come up with new, delicious, and easy lunch recipes for school kids, especially if you have to reach office and juggle other responsibilities. Nonetheless, this task is achievable provided you have a predetermined menu ready for each day of the week.
Making sure your child gets the required nutrition is not easy, when all kids do is throw tantrums when asked to eat healthy food. Given a choice even we would opt for junk over green leafy vegetables. We only eat it now, because we understand its nutritional value and benefits. Experimenting with not-so-formed taste buds, is one way of making kids eat.
It is especially at lunch time at school that children trade food for a little extra playtime. Making healthy and easy lunch recipes for school is an endeavor to make kids eat nutritious food while they are away from home. These recipes give parents a chance to prepare the lunch quickly, so that they do not get delayed for their work.

Healthy Lunch Ideas

Italian Turkey Wrap

Sandwiches are plain, simple boring. You see them everywhere and eat them all the time. Italian turkey wrap is a great break away from rudimentary sandwiches and perfect lunch idea for picky eaters.
Ingredients
  • 1 large flour tortilla, regular or flavored
  • ¼ cup baby spinach leaves
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 ounces leftover roast turkey
  • 1 ounce sliced Provolone, Swiss, or Cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon chopped red onion
  • 2 thin slices tomato
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

Mix the mayonnaise and the cheese in a bowl. Spread the mix over tortilla and top it with turkey, red onion, spinach, sliced cheese, tomato slices, and sprinkle some salt and pepper. Roll the tortilla over to cover the filling, cut it into half and pack it up in a foil. This way, your child eats meat and spinach, which is a rich source of iron and protein.

Baked Chicken Fingers

Finger food with veggies is the ultimate healthy combo meal! They are not only easy to make, but a healthy meal alternative for children. A great hit amongst young eaters, you can make these very easily in the morning for a sumptuous afternoon lunch.
Ingredients
  • ¼ cup chopped pepperoni
  • ¼ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tbsp. spaghetti sauce
  • 1 6-inch pocket-type pita bread

Method

In a large bowl stir pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, and spaghetti sauce. At this point you can put in the veggies of your choice. Mushrooms and green vegetables are disliked by children. So here is your chance in making something interesting out of them.
Slice the pita bread wide enough to fill the mixture and stuff it with cheese. Foil it up and bake it at 400 degrees F for 15 minutes till the cheese melt, et voila your dish is ready!

Portable Taco Salad

Salads are one more dish often detested by children. Reinventing them with a few tasty ingredients will help you win your child's heart through his stomach!
Ingredients
  • 2 cups shredded romaine or iceberg lettuce
  • ¼ cup chopped tomato
  • ½ cup canned kidney or pinto beans, rinsed and drained
  • ½ cup salsa
  • ½ cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup tortilla chips

Method

Mix the lettuce, tomato, beans, and salsa in a bowl. Now add the cheese and a dollop of sour cream to it. Top it on tortilla chips and your salad is ready! Fill it up in an air tight container and for a school lunch.
Make sure that the meal box is packed in a hygienic way. Soggy smelly food seems repulsive and thus come back home as it is. Try to make salads using a variety of raw vegetables for school lunches. These include a lot of vitamins, iron, and other essential nutrients, which must be a part of a child's diet.
