Lettuce Wrap Recipes

Easy to prepare, lettuce wraps are nutritious as well as delicious. Go through this story for some simple recipes to prepare this dish.
Lettuce wraps are commonly served as appetizers in restaurants. You may come across different types of lettuce wraps that are prepared with a wide range of ingredients. If you love this dish, it is not necessary to visit restaurants, as you can easily prepare them at home. It will be relished by both kids as well as adults.
As the name implies, lettuce leaf is an indispensable ingredient of this dish. Iceberg lettuce is the most commonly used for this purpose, but other types like romaine, escarole, red leaf, etc., can also be used. You may use this dish as an appetizer or with the main course.
Chicken Lettuce Wrap
Ingredients
  • Butter lettuce leaves - one large head
  • Ground dark meat chicken - 1 pound
  • Minced scallions (both white and green parts) - 8
  • Cornstarch - 2 tsp.
  • Peanut oil - 2 tbsp.
  • Chopped water chestnuts - ⅔ cup
  • Fresh ginger root (grated) - 1 tbsp.
  • Oyster sauce - 1 tbsp.
  • Soy sauce - 3 tbsp.
Preparation Procedure
Place a skillet over medium heat, and pour oil into it. When the oil gets warm, add chicken, cornstarch, and scallions. Make sure to stir the contents constantly, till the chicken gets cooked. As the chicken starts breaking into pieces, add chopped chestnuts, ginger, soy sauce, and oyster sauce.
Cook for another minute, before removing from heat. Take a lettuce leaf, and place a spoon full of the prepared chicken mixture on it. Wrap the lettuce leaf around the filling. Your chicken lettuce wrap is ready to serve.
Vegetarian Lettuce Wrap
This is an easy recipe that can be prepared within half an hour. In order to serve two people, you need the following ingredients.
  • Large leaves of iceberg lettuce - 4
  • Raw carrots - 1
  • Snap green beans - ½ cup
  • Fresh mushroom slices - ½ cup
  • Chopped raw onions - ½ cup
  • Fresh broccoli - 1 spear
  • Fresh red cabbage - ¼ head
  • Kikkoman stir fry sauce - 2 tbsp.
  • Olive oil - 2 tbsp.
Preparation Procedure
Chop the vegetables. Place a wok or skillet on high heat. As the oil gets warm, add onions and cook for a minute. Add the remaining chopped vegetables into the wok. Stir them and cover the wok for one to two minutes. After that, combine the ingredients with the stir fry sauce, and cook for another minute.
Stir the vegetables constantly, so that they get evenly coated with the sauce. You may also add other sauces, if you wish. Take the lettuce leaves, and place the vegetable mixture on them.
P. F. Chang's Lettuce Wrap
P. F. Chang's lettuce wraps are among the most popular versions of this dish. You can prepare this special lettuce wrap at home. In order to prepare three servings, you need the following ingredients.
  • Iceberg lettuce - 5 leaves
  • Cooking oil - 3 tbsp.
  • Boneless chicken breasts - 2
  • Water chestnut - 1 cup
  • Mushrooms - ⅔ cup
  • Chopped onion - 3 tbsp.
  • Minced garlic - 1 tsp.
Apart from the ingredients mentioned, you have to prepare special sauces for this recipe. The following are the ingredients for making the special sauce.
  • Water - ½ cup
  • Sugar - ¼ cup
  • Rice wine vinegar - 2 tbsp.
  • Soy sauce - 2 tbsp.
  • Lemon juice - 1 tbsp.
  • Ketchup - 2 tbsp.
  • Hot mustard - 1 tbsp.
  • Sesame oil - ⅛ tsp.
  • Garlic-red chili paste - 2 tsp.
  • Water - 2 tsp.
You have to prepare another stir fry sauce with two tablespoons each of brown sugar and soy sauce, and ½ teaspoon rice wine vinegar.
Preparation ProcedurePrepare the special sauce by mixing ½ cup water and sugar, till the sugar dissolves completely. Add lemon juice, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, and ketchup to the sugar solution. Combine the ingredients well and refrigerate the mixture.
You can take it out, at the time of serving lettuce wraps. Mix hot mustard with hot water and keep the mixture aside. Just before serving, you can add the required amount of hot mustard and garlic chili paste to the refrigerated sauce mixture, so that you can pour it over the wraps.
The next step is to make the special chicken mixture. Take a wok and place it over high heat. Add oil (2 tbsp.) and chicken breasts to the wok. Saute the chicken, till both sides are done well. It will take around five minutes for one side to get cooked. Remove the chicken breasts and let them cool.
Meanwhile, prepare the stir fry sauce by mixing the ingredients (soy sauce, brown sugar, and rice wine vinegar). Mince mushrooms and water chestnuts into small pieces. As the chicken breasts get cool, mince them as well. Heat oil (1 tbsp.) in the wok, and add minced garlic, chopped onion, minced water chestnuts, chicken, and mushrooms.
Add the stir fry sauce to this mixture and saute them for a few minutes, so that the contents get evenly coated with the sauce. Once done, serve this mixture in lettuce leaves with a topping of special sauce.
You may also experiment with various fillings and sauces and come up with some unique and delicious lettuce wraps.
