If you have ever tried a sangria before, you would probably think of it as a deep red colored drink with lemon or orange slices. This delicious red wine cocktail is called so because, Sangria means "to bleed" in Spanish and the deep red color of it surely looks like that!
But sangria recipes are not only made with red wine, but also with white wine, which is a more subtle form of wine. Being one of the best on the menu, white sangrias are often delicious and refreshing cocktails on a hot summer afternoon.
It's also the perfect drink to have on a casual evening, when you just feel like having one! If you're thinking that a sangria is a difficult drink to make, then you are mistaken. With some simple recipes of white sangria mentioned below, you will take less than 20 minutes to enjoy it!

Making White Sangria at Home

Even though the traditional red wine sangria has a beautiful deep ruby red color of the wine, the white sangria can be a pleasant change. We usually associate red wine to an evening drink, but if you want to enjoy a light wine drink at any time of the day, a white sangria is the perfect choice.
Served at beach parties, weddings, or any other casual event, this drink is usually so light that you can't feel the alcohol in it. This type of sangria can be made with or without fruits, depending on how you would like to alter its taste.

White Wine Sangria

Ingredients
  • 1 bottle of dry white wine
  • ¼ cup of cognac or brandy
  • 2 cups of ginger ale
  • 2 tablespoons of white sugar
  • Lemon Slices
  • Ice Cubes
  • Fruit slices of orange, peach (optional)
Directions
Pour the cognac and sugar into the pitcher and stir until the sugar has dissolved. Then add the white wine and fruits to this pitcher and stir these well too. Finally, put in the ginger ale and stir it well once again.
Once these ingredients are mixed well, refrigerate the whole pitcher for a few hours till it is chilled. Before serving, add some ice cubes and top the glass with a slice of lemon.

White Sangria with Fruit

Ingredients
  • 4 (750 milliliter) bottles chilled dry white wine
  • 1 liter ginger ale, chilled
  • ½ cup cognac
  • ½ cup peach schnapps
  • 4 oranges, sliced into rounds
  • 2 mangoes, peeled and sliced
  • ¼ cup white sugar
Directions
Same as earlier, combine cognac, sugar, peach schnapps, sliced oranges and sliced mangoes in the pitcher and dissolve the sugar by stirring. Add white wine and ginger ale to this pitcher and stir it to mix well.
Refrigerate this till you have to serve it, so the fruits get soaked in the alcohol and the drink becomes chilled. Pour it out while serving, and top it with a slice of any of the above mentioned fruits.

Cinnamon White Sangria

Ingredients
  • 1 750ml bottle white wine
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 6 short cinnamon sticks
  • 1 cup apple juice
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • 2 oranges, in wedges
  • 10 cherries
Directions
This is a unique preparation which might take a little 'longer than usual' time. You need to heat the water, sugar, and cinnamon sticks for about 5 minutes and then cool.
Remove the sticks from the liquid and add the remaining sangria ingredients in it, so that the cinnamon flavor is soaked by all of them. Refrigerate this drink in the pitcher overnight and serve it chilled, with ice cubes and fruit toppers.
