Jello shots are unique drinks that have become a hit in party circles. They are made by using jelly available in different fruit flavors that are prepared with gelatin. To make these shots, the jello is combined with some kind of alcohol. Though these are most popular with college students, nowadays it is also been seen in several other parties, like bridal showers, office parties, and even wedding receptions.
However, not many people attempt making them, as they think it would be a difficult process. On the contrary, making jello shots is quite easy and is not time-consuming at all. So, let us take a look at the procedures of making these shots with different types of liquor.
Though the basic process of making jello shots is the same, a variety of them can be made with the help of different jelly flavors as well as alcohol. These shots are usually made with all types of liquor. However, the most popular ones are made with vodka, rum, and tequila. Let us understand the art of making jello shots with different alcoholic drinks.

With Vodka

Jello shots with vodka will go well with any jello flavor. However, the jello used in this specific recipe given here is raspberry. Nevertheless, you can use any other flavor according to your choice.

Ingredients:
  • 6 ounces raspberry jello
  • 10 ounces vodka
  • 16 ounces boiling water
  • 6 ounces of cold water
Preparation:
In a large container, bring 16 ounces of water to boil and then add the raspberry jello into it. Stir continuously so that the jello gets dissolved completely. Pour in the cold water, followed by chilled vodka. Continue mixing and then set it aside. Once this is done, prepare shot glasses by spraying a little cooking oil in them.
This is because the jello tends to stick to the base of the shot glasses. Pour the jello-vodka mixture into these glasses and store them for 3-4 hours. Make sure that they are firm before serving. While serving jello shots in glasses, do not forget to give popsicle sticks or spoons to the guests.

With Rum

The best jello flavors that will go well with rum are orange, lemon, strawberry, and peach. Here, we will take a look at a rum jello shot made with a mixture of lemon and strawberry mix.

Ingredients:
  • 3 teaspoons lemon jello mix
  • 8 ounces rum, chilled
  • 3 ounces strawberry jello
  • Fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 8 ounces boiling water
Preparation:
In a heat-resistant pitcher, place lemon and strawberry jello mixes and pour boiling water in it. Mix well with a spoon till the jello gets blended fully. Leave it for cooling for some time. Once it gets cooled a little, add the rum and stir again. You can either use shot glasses as done in the earlier recipe or make use of small plastic cups.
The advantage of plastic cups is that the jello does not stick at the bottom and can be taken out easily by just squeezing the glass. Pour the prepared jello into the cups and place some strawberries on top. Secure the glasses with a lid and store them in the refrigerator. Place a sliced strawberry at the edge of the glass and serve.

With Tequila

Tequila jello shots can be made with all type of jello flavors and are loved by most people.

Ingredients:
  • 3 ounces orange
  • 8 ounces tequila, chilled
  • 3 teaspoons grenadine (pomegranate juice syrup)
  • 8 ounces boiling water
Preparation:
Heat water in a large pot and add the jello to it when it begins to boil. Stir well so that the jello dissolves in it completely. Remove the pot from the flame and allow it to cool for a few minutes. Then, add tequila and grenadine and keep on stirring till all the ingredients are fully mixed.
Pour these shots into cups or glasses and chill them in the refrigerator until serving. If you want, once these jello shots have become firm, you can take them out on a plate and cut them into various shapes with the help of cookie cutters.
One important thing that has to be kept in mind while making jello shots with any type of liquor is to chill the liquor for at least an hour. So, for the next party at your place, try making these shots, and I am sure your guests will enjoy them.
