Making Donuts ...
... from Scratch
Ingredients
Plain Flour, 1¼ lb
Salt, 1 teaspoon
Baking Powder, 1 teaspoon
Cinnamon, ½ teaspoon
Margarine, 3 tablespoons
Confectioners' Sugar
Vegetable Oil, for frying
Extra sugar, for coating
Method
In a large bowl, sieve flour, salt, baking powder, cinnamon, sugar, and margarine, and mix well.
As you knead, slowly add water to combine all the ingredients together.
You can even choose to knead the dough on your work station. Now, roll the dough out on a flat, wooden surface to ½" thick piece.
Use a donut cutter that makes a hole in the middle of each piece.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer and drop 2 to 3 donuts in to fry.
Make sure you don't crowd the fryer. Let the donuts fry till you see a golden brown color all around.
Remove donuts from the fryer and drain them on paper towels. Sprinkle confectioners' sugar on top and serve.
