Cookies are loved by the young and old, alike. Cookie-making is no doubt, one of the most favorite family activities. Although it sounds fun, we sometimes end up making more than the required amount. In such situations, the best option is to freeze them for later use. Freezing cookies as well as cookie dough is a good way of preserving them. However, it is important to know the right way of how to do this, else they might spoil. Here are some ways that you can try.

How to Freeze Cookie Dough

Freezing the dough is usually said to be better than freezing cookies. To do this, you will need two plastic wraps to cover it, one over the other, making sure to firmly secure the dough. Once this is done, using a permanent marker, write what kind of dough it is and the date of preparation, on the plastic wrap.
The purpose of wrapping the dough, is to prevent freezer burns (dehydration and oxidation of food exposed to air), as well as from the absorption of flavors of other foods. Whenever you wish to use the dough again, you can simply take it out of the freezer, and let it come down to room temperature, before you begin the process.
However, make sure to use the dough within a month from its day of packaging.

Freezing Baked Cookies

Though freezing cookies is not considered to be the best way of storing them, there is actually no harm in doing so. Rather, by freezing the cookies, one can actually store these for 2 to 3 months, without any spoilage. So, if you are left with excess cookies, here are some ways on how to freeze them.

Method #01

One way to do this, is to pack them, individually. First, allow the cookies to cool, completely. Once this is done, wrap each individual cookie in plastic wrap and seal these, properly. Place them in a freezer container or freezer storage bag. The purpose of wrapping them individually is to prevent them from sticking to each other.

Method #02

Another way to freeze them is by using wax paper or freezer paper. For this, take a plastic container and line it with a sheet of wax paper at the bottom. Place the cookies in a single layer and put another sheet of wax paper over them. Place another layer of cookies atop this. Repeat these steps, until all the cookies are packed away into the container. Place one more sheet of wax paper on top of the final layer and close the lid, tightly. You can use this method to freeze any kind of cookie.

Method #03

For cookies that have icing on them, or those that are coated with sugar, arrange them on a cookie sheet so that they form a single layer. Now, place the sheet on a freezer-safe tray and leave it in the freezer for an hour or so. This will help the frosting or the sugar to harden, so that they do not fall off while being packed for freezing. When the frosting is completely frozen, you can choose either of the above procedures to freeze cookies.
When you want to eat the frozen cookies, you just have to remove them from the freezer and leave them out to thaw at room temperature. However, if you cannot wait to taste these delicious cookies, warm them up in the microwave for 30 seconds and enjoy feasting on them with a glass of milk.
