Hot Chocolate Mix Recipes

Hot chocolate is a popular drink that is not only a favorite among young children, but also adults. This drink is made with cocoa powder, sugar, and milk (or water). It is high in saturated fat, calories, and sugar. On the other hand, it has many health benefits and was used for medicinal purposes to cure a whole lot of ailments by our ancestors.
This chocolate drink, which is said to have been introduced by the people of the Mayan civilization some 2000 years ago, has become a popular beverage around the world. However, the original recipe has undergone various changes, where every country has a different version of this delicious drink.

Hot Chocolate with Cocoa

Ingredients

  • ⅓ cup, unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ⅓ cup, boiled water
  • 4 ounces, half-and-half cream
  • ¾ cup, white sugar
  • 3½ cups, milk
  • 1 pinch, salt
  • ¾ teaspoon, vanilla extract

Preparation

In a saucepan add the cocoa, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Place it on the stove and add boiling water to it, slowly. Cook it on medium heat while stirring continuously, till it starts boiling. Reduce the flame and allow the mixture to simmer for 1-2 minutes. Remember to continue stirring the mixture during this time.
After two minutes, add the milk and heat the mixture on a low flame till it becomes very hot. However, do not allow the mixture to boil. Once the mixture becomes very hot, take the saucepan off the flame and add the vanilla, to it. Stir well. Pour this liquid into coffee mugs and top it off with cream before serving.

Peppermint Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • ⅓ cup, unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1⅔ cups, chocolate chips
  • 3 tablespoons, peppermint extract
  • ⅔ cup, sugar
  • 1⅓ cup, non-fat dry milk powder
  • Mini marshmallows (1 tablespoon per serving)

Preparation

Take a saucepan and heat a cup of water in it. When the water starts boiling rapidly, add the mint chocolate chips, milk powder, sugar, cocoa powder, and peppermint extract, to it. You can add more water if the mixture is too thick. Stir well.
Reduce the size of the flame and stir the contents till the chocolate mix has fully melted. Do not let the mixture boil. Transfer the mixture to mugs and serve them with a tablespoon of marshmallows, each.

Vegan Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 1¾ cups, cocoa
  • 8 cups, soy milk
  • 4 ounces, instant chocolate pudding mix (vegan)
  • 1½ cups, non-diary coffee creamer
  • 4¾ cups, powdered sugar

Preparation

To make the chocolate mix, combine the soy milk, cocoa, chocolate pudding mix, coffee creamer, and sugar, in a large mixing bowl. Stir its contents with a teaspoon till they are fully combined and then store them in airtight containers in the refrigerator. When you wish to have the beverage, pour the desired quantity into mugs and microwave it on high for a minute. You can have this drink with a dollop of whipped cream on top.
