Ingredients for Cake

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 4 ounces special dark cocoa
  • ⅔ cup vegetable oil
  • 1¾ cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup strong, hot coffee
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 teaspoons baking soda

Ingredients for Frosting

  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • ¼ - ½ cup special dark cocoa
  • ¼ cup half and half

Preparation

1. In a large mixing bowl, take flour, sugar, salt, cocoa, cinnamon and baking soda. Combine these ingredients together till they are fully blended.
2. Add buttermilk, egg and oil to this mixture and beat them together on a medium speed. When this is done, put in the vanilla and the coffee to the bowl and mix till the batter becomes smooth.
3. When the cake batter is ready, grease a 9X11 baking pan very lightly. Spread the batter into the pan and keep it for baking in the oven.
4. Bake the chocolate cake for thirty five minutes at 350 degrees F. After the set time, take the cake out of the oven and conduct a toothpick test to see whether the cake is fully done. If the toothpick comes out clean, keep it on a wire rack to cool completely.
5. The time that is taken for baking the cake should be used for making its frosting. The first step would be to take the butter in a microwave friendly bowl and microwave it so that it melts.
6. After the butter is fully melted, add vanilla, powdered sugar and cocoa into the bowl. Mix these ingredients slowly and add half and half till you reach the right consistency.

  • 1 7/8 cups cake flour
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • ⅔ cup cocoa powder, unsweetened
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ⅔ cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Preparation

Mix cocoa, flour, salt and baking soda together by passing each one through the sieve. Stir these ingredients until they are fully combined. Then, again sift the ingredients with sugar. Add the vegetable shortening to this mixture very slowly till the mixture begins to look crumbly. This recipe will help you to make one package of cake mix which you should store at room temperature.
To make cake with this cake mix, take the whole thing in a bowl and combine it with 1¼ cups milk and a teaspoon of vanilla. With the help of an electric mixer, combine them together at a medium speed for approximately 1 - 2 minutes.
Add 2 eggs to this mixture and beat till it becomes a smooth batter. Take a baking pan and grease it lightly. Then, spread some flour on it and pour the batter in the pan. Place the pan in the oven and bake for thirty minutes for 350 degrees F. Once they are done, conduct the toothpick test and allow it to cool before coating it with icing.
