Homemade BBQ Sauce

A barbecue is just incomplete without delicious and spicy sauces. Here are some awesome recipes that are not only easy to prepare, but will also satiate your guests' taste buds.
There are a variety of barbecue sauces available in the market, most of which are made from the same ingredients, and hence, have a similar taste. Moreover, ready-made barbecue sauces are made using different artificial additives and preservatives which are not at all healthy.
Preparing homemade barbecue sauces will not only help you overcome various health concerns, but by adding some of your favorite ingredients and spices to it, you can prepare your own exquisite version.

Memphis Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp. butter
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 red chilies, seeded and chopped
  • 1½ cups ketchup
  • 3 tbsp. molasses
  • 3 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp. English mustard
  • 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp. liquid smoke
  • 1 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice

Preparation

In a saucepan, melt the butter and add the onions and chillies to it; sauté them for about 3-4 minutes or until the onions turn translucent. Now, add the rest of the ingredients, let it simmer for about 10-12 minutes. Your barbecue sauce is ready.

Smoky-Flavored Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle (12 oz.) chili sauce
  • 1 tbsp. mustard
  • 3 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ cup water
  • 3 tbsp. vinegar
  • 2 tsp. liquid smoke

Preparation

Pour the entire chili sauce bottle into a bowl and simply add all the ingredients to it. Use the sauce right away, but if you want to prepare it a night before the party, let it stand in the refrigerator, overnight.

Spicy Apricot Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds apricots, pitted and halved
  • 3 large tomatoes, halved
  • 3 cups brown sugar
  • 2 cups cider vinegar
  • ½ cup dry white wine
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 2 tsp. hot sauce
  • 2 tsp. Dijon mustard

Preparation

In a large stock pot, combine all the ingredients and bring them to a boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 1½-2 hours. When the sauce has reduced, strain it through a sieve and use it instantly, or store the sauce in an airtight container.

Chipotle Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients

  • 16 oz. tomato ketchup
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 cans chipotle chilies, chopped
  • 4 oz. brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp. cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp. garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp. celery salt
  • ½ tsp. black pepper
  • A splash of cooking oil

Preparation

In a saucepan, heat the oil and sauté the onions and minced garlic for about 5-7 minutes, or until the onions turn translucent. Add the remaining ingredients to it and allow this to simmer. When the sauce thickens, remove it from the heat.
