Ham Appetizer Recipes

These yummy appetizers would be a perfect snack to go before a meal, or as a midday meal.
Appetizers are small but interesting snack bites that one should learn to make. Not only are most appetizers appealing to the eye, they can be quite filling too. Planning a party or cooking for more than two, requires a good sense of calculation.
While serving appetizers for just a cocktail, make sure you keep them coming and ensure variety in taste and flavors. Also, make sure you have plenty of paper towels around. Ham can add quite an interesting twist instead of the regular chicken or veggie appetizers.

Ham Toast

Ingredients
  • Ground (cooked) ham, 1 cup
  • Minced onion, ¼ cup
  • Minced rosemary, 1 tsp
  • Dijon mustard, 1 tbsp
  • Mayonnaise, ½ cup
  • Pickle relish, 2 tbsp
  • Crackers or toast
Procedure
In a food processor, process the ham. Mix all other ingredients, leaving behind half the mayonnaise with ground ham in a bowl. Place it in the refrigerator to chill for half an hour. Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on crackers or toast, and spoon a large tablespoon of ham mixture on it. This appetizers should be served chilled.

Ham Sandwiches

Ingredients
  • Chopped cooked ham, ½ lb
  • Softened butter, 1 cup
  • Chopped onion, 1
  • Poppy seeds, 2 tbsp
  • Swiss cheese, 4 oz
  • Worcestershire sauce, 1 tbsp
  • Dijon mustard, 2 tbsp
  • Party rolls, 10-2
Procedure
Mix together the butter, onion, poppy seeds, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Slice each roll horizontally from the middle. Spread rolls (bottoms) with butter, and top with ham mixture. Place the half cut tops back onto the party rolls.
Preheat oven to 350 ºF and place the rolls in a microwave friendly dish in a single layer, careful not to overlap each other. Bake until the rolls turn brown and the cheese melts.

Cold Ham Starters

Ingredients
  • Finely chopped ham, 2 cups
  • Spinach, 18 large de-stemmed leaves
  • Sliced, roasted red peppers, 1 cup
  • Chopped onions, 3
  • Softened, cream cheese, ½ cup
  • Dijon mustard, 2 tbsp
  • Tortillas, 6-8
Procedure
In a bowl, blend together cream cheese, mustard, and onions. Spread this mix evenly onto each tortillas. Place about two to three spinach leaves on each tortilla and press it down. Spoon pepper and ham onto the leaves and wrap each tortilla in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for one hour. Serve chilled.

Sliced Ham

Ingredients
  • Thinly sliced cooked ham, 1 lb
  • Asparagus, 8 oz
  • Horseradish, 2 tsp
  • Dijon mustard, 2 tsp
  • Softened cream cheese, 15 oz
  • Worcestershire sauce, ½ tsp
Procedure
In a bowl, mix together the horseradish, cream cheese, mustard and Worcestershire sauce. In a large saucepan, cook the asparagus until crisp-tender. Spread a thin layer of cream cheese mixture on ham slices. Place one asparagus right in the middle of the ham slice and roll it up. Cut into small pieces. Refrigerate for an hour and serve chilled.
