Frozen Yogurt Recipes

Here are some homemade frozen yogurt recipes that are easy to prepare and delicious at the same time.
If you crave for ice cream every time, but are concerned about the fat and calorie count, frozen yogurt is the ideal alternative. It is basically a sweet dessert made from yogurt and other pure dairy products. Sour, sugar-free, and fat-free are some types of frozen yogurt.
For people with lactose indigestion problems, non-dairy versions are also available in the food stores. Similar to ice cream, frozen yogurt can be made in any flavor that you can think of. An ice-cream maker is the only equipment needed to make frozen yogurt at home. If you use a consistently thick yogurt in the recipe, your frozen yogurt will be delicious.

Easy Frozen Yogurt

Ingredients
  • 1 cup plain nonfat yogurt
  • 1 cup low-fat buttermilk
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ cup light corn syrup
  • 2 teaspoons fresh ginger (finely grated)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon peel (finely grated)
  • ¾ cup water
Directions
In a medium-sized saucepan, add the sugar, corn syrup, ginger, and water. Bring the mixture to a boil, and let it simmer until the sugar dissolves. Strain it through a cheesecloth, and allow the filtrate to cool down. To this, stir in the yogurt, buttermilk, lemon juice, and lemon peel.
Pour the mixture into the ice cream maker, and proceed according to the user manual. Freeze for the allotted time and your frozen yogurt is ready. Top it with fresh fruit, and serve.

Low-fat Frozen Yogurt

Ingredients
  • 2 cups plain low-fat yogurt
  • 2 cups strawberries
  • 1 medium-sized banana (peeled and cut into chunks)
  • 4 teaspoons sugar substitute
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1½ teaspoons unflavored gelatin
  • 2 tablespoons water
Directions
Add the gelatin and water to a small saucepan. Let the mixture cook over a low heat, and stir constantly till the gelatin dissolves completely. Remove the pan from heat and let the mixture cool down. Transfer it to an electric blender along with the strawberries and banana chunks. Blend for 2-3 mins, or until you get a consistently smooth paste.
Add in the yogurt, sugar substitute, and vanilla extract, and process for another 2-3 mins. Pour the mixture into the ice cream maker and freeze according to the directions. If the ice cream maker is not available, pour the mixture into a shallow metal pan, cover it with a lid, and refrigerate. Stir the mixture in between to get the consistency of ice cream.

Sugar-free Frozen Yogurt

Ingredients
  • 1 cup plain, low-fat yogurt
  • ½ cup fat-free dry milk
  • 1 cup fresh (or unsweetened, frozen) blackberries
  • 1 tablespoon artificial sweetener
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 teaspoon unflavored gelatin
  • ¼ cup water
  • ⅓ cup cold water
Directions
In a small bowl, mix the gelatin with ¼ cup of the water, and keep it aside for 2 minutes. Then, let it cook over low heat until the gelatin dissolves completely. Purée the blackberries in an electric mixer, and strain it to separate the seeds. In a mixing bowl, combine the blackberries purée, sweetener, gelatin, and yogurt.
Mix the egg white, dry milk, and ⅓ cup of the cold water in another bowl. Fold this concoction into the blackberries purée mixture. Pour it into the ice cream maker and follow the manual directions. Leave it for the stipulated time and then serve.
