Flat Iron Steak Recipes

Flat iron steak is a tender, flavored beef, which is available in a number of restaurants these days. You can prepare a variety of tasty dishes with flat iron steak.
Flat iron steak has gained extreme popularity in the United States. It is a cut obtained from the shoulder of a steer. A steak crosscut from the infraspinatus muscle is known as top blade steak.
This type of steak is named as flat iron due to its appearance that is similar to an old-fashioned metal flat iron. It is rectangular in shape and uniformly thick. It is known for its wonderful beefy flavor and tenderness. This variety of steak generally shows an ample amount of marbling.
A variety of sumptuous dishes can be prepared with a flat iron steak. The best ways to cook a steak are broiling, grilling, and frying.

Flat Iron Steak with Chili Rub

Ingredients
  • 2 flat iron steaks, 1 pound each
  • 2 tbsp onion, minced
  • 2½ tsp chili powder
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano, crushed 
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • ¼ tsp black pepper 
  • 1 tsp salt
Preparation
First, season the steaks with salt in a shallow baking dish. Combine together the minced onion, minced garlic, chili powder, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, dried oregano, black pepper, and salt. Pour this mixture over the steaks and cover them with a plastic wrap. Allow them to stand for about 10 minutes at room temperature.
Preheat the grill at medium setting. Remove marinated steaks from the dish and place them on the grill. Reserve some amount of marinade. Let the steaks cook for about 10-15 minutes. Pour the remaining of marinade over the steaks during the cooking process. Remove the steaks from heat, when desired doneness is achieved.

Flat Iron Steak with Rosemary and Red Wine

Ingredients
  • 2 flat iron steaks, 1 lb each
  • 2 garlic cloves, mashed
  • ¼ cup of dry red wine
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp fresh rosemary, chopped
  • ½ tsp dry mustard
  • 1 tsp parsley, chopped
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
Preparation
Combine garlic, mustard, parsley, olive oil, red wine, rosemaryand black pepper to make a marinade. Mix it well. In a shallow baking dish, season the flat iron steaks with salt. Coat it with the marinade mixture and cover with plastic wrap. Allow the steaks to marinate in the refrigerator at least for one hour. You can also marinate it overnight.
Preheat the grill over medium heat. Place the steaks onto the grill and allow them to cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side. When desired doneness is obtained, remove the steaks from the heat.

Roasted Garlic Flat Iron Steak

Ingredients
  • 4 flat iron steaks
  • 15 cloves of garlic
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Ground black pepper
  • Salt
Preparation
Preheat the oven to 350 degree F. On a baking sheet, drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil over garlic cloves. Bake garlic in preheated oven for about 15-50 minutes, until golden brown. Toss and turn it occasionally in order to prevent it from burning. Remove garlic from the oven and allow it to cool.
Mix the baked garlic and ½ cup of olive oil and blend this mixture in a food processor, until a fine paste is obtained. First season the steaks with pepper and salt and then rub the garlic paste on both sides of the steak.
Cook the steaks in the oven over medium heat for about 5 minutes on each side. Remove from heat, when desired doneness is obtained.
