Falafel Sandwich

Falafel is very popular in Middle Eastern countries, as this dish is tasty and very easy to make. Given in this story are recipes for falafel sandwiches, that you will surely love.
Falafel is a fried patty made from chickpeas or fava beans. It is an Egyptian cuisine and is a famous fast food in the Middle Eastern countries. These falafels can be eaten with sauces like Tahini, or even with wraps and breads. They are very healthy snacks because they contain beans, which are high protein sources. Moreover, the calories depend on what ingredients you use.

Recipe #1

Ingredients
  • Vegetable oil, 1 tbsp.
  • Green onions, chopped, 2
  • Fresh mushrooms, diced, ¾ cup
  • Garlic cloves, chopped, 3
  • Garbanzo beans, 1 can (15.5 oz.)
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped, 1½ tbsp.
  • Fresh parsley, minced, 1½ tsp.
  • Curry powder
  • Ground cumin, ½ tsp.
  • Dry bread crumbs, ½ cup
  • Egg whites, 2
  • Vegetable oil, 2 tbsp.
Procedure
Take a large skillet and heat one tablespoon of oil in it. Heat the oil over medium-high heat and then add mushrooms, green onions and fry them to attain a tender texture. Keep stirring the mixture. Then add canned garbanzo beans (along with the liquid) and garlic to the container of food processor. Blend the mixture to make it smooth and then transfer it to a medium-sized bowl.
Now, add onions and mushrooms to the garbanzo mixture and combine parsley, cilantro, curry powder, and cumin to it. Mix the ingredients properly and then add the egg whites and bread crumbs. Cover the bottom of the large skillet with oil and heat the oil. Prepare balls from the garbanzo mixture and make flat patties from it. Fry these patties in the heated oil until both sides turn brown. Your falafels are ready, put them in pita bread or round buns.

Ingredients
  • Sturdy pitas, 2
  • Freshly fried falafel, 8-10 warm
  • Hummus, ½ cup
  • Greek yogurt, ½ cup
  • Red cabbage, thinly sliced, ½ cup
  • Carrots, ½ cup
  • Mixed baby greens, ½ cup
  • Lemon, 1
  • Banana peppers, pickled, 2
  • Turnip spears, pickled, 4
  • Tahini sauce
  • Hot sauce
  • Kosher salt
Procedure
In a small mixing bowl combine mixed baby greens, lemon juice, and Kosher salt. Heat the oven at low and warm the pita bread in it. Then, remove them from the oven and slice the top to create a pocket. Apply a thick layer of hummus and fill the pocket of the pita bread with the fried falafels. Then drizzle Tahini sauce and top with baby greens, cabbage, and carrot. Garnish the sandwich with pickled turnip and serve.

Ingredients
  • Whole wheat pitas, 4
  • Baking soda, ¼ tsp.
  • Tahini, 2 tbsp.
  • Table salt, ¼ tsp.
  • Ground cumin, 1 tsp.
  • Garlic clove, minced, 1 medium
  • Chickpeas, rinsed and drained, 15½ oz. canned
  • Onion, chopped, ¼ cup
  • Parsley (chopped) - ¼ cup
  • Ground coriander, ¼ tsp.
  • All-purpose flour, 1 tbsp.
  • Fresh lemon juice, 1 tbsp.
  • Water, 2 tbsp.
  • Lettuce
Procedure
Preheat the oven to 400°F. Add onion, parsley, garlic, cumin, salt, coriander, and baking soda to the container of the food processor. Blend the mixture to form a puree and then transfer it to a large bowl. Combine flour to this mixture and form patties from it. Grease an ovenproof skillet with cooking spray and keep it over medium-high heat.
Add patties to the skillet and cook them to attain a golden brown color. Then transfer this pan to the oven and bake the patties for about 10 minutes. Meanwhile prepare Tahini dressing by adding lemon juice, water, and Tahini in a bowl. Now to prepare the sandwiches, take 2 lettuce leaves and place them in each pita bread. Then place a falafel in each pita bread and drizzle one tablespoon of Tahini dressing over each sandwich.
