Easy Mai Tai Recipes

A mai tai is a strong rum-based cocktail prepared with lime and fruit juice. It is very easy to make, and you just need to mix the ingredients together in a cocktail shaker.

An excellent fruity rum drink, mai tai is a favorite cocktail for serving during hot summer afternoons. The fruit juices and rum complement each other, resulting in a great tasting tropical drink for everyone. Besides the authentic mai tai recipe, you have so many variations to try at home. A simple trick is to know fruit juice and rum types that blend perfectly with each other.

Authentic Mai Tai

Ingredients
  • Jamaican rum, 2 oz.
  • Orange Curacao, ½ oz.
  • Orgeat, ½ oz.
  • Rock candy syrup, ¼ oz.
  • Juice of 1 fresh lime
  • Lime slice and pineapple wedge for garnish
Directions
If available, use rum that is 15 - 17 years old. Otherwise, the remaining recipe ingredients will overpower the rum flavor. Pour rum, orange Curacao, orgeat, candy syrup, and lime juice in a cocktail shaker. Add a few ice cubes, and shake the mixture. Pour the cocktail in a tall glass, garnish with lime slice and pineapple wedge.

Easy Mai Tai Drink

Ingredients
  • Dark rum, 2 oz.
  • Light rum, 2 oz.
  • Gold rum, 2 oz.
  • Orange Curacao, 1 oz.
  • Almond syrup, 1 oz.
  • Fresh lime juice, 1 oz.
Directions
In a large cocktail shaker, measure and add the above listed ingredients - dark rum, light rum, gold rum, orange Curacao, almond syrup, and lime juice. Shake well and keep aside.
Fill crushed ice in unusual shaped serving glasses, and pour the cocktail over it. If you are bored of the regular cold serving method (with crushed ice), try serving with cream. Though it sounds weird, some people really like this creamy concoction of fruit juice and rum.

Mai Tai with Pineapple Juice

Ingredients
  • Light rum, 1 oz.
  • Dark rum, ½ oz.
  • Pineapple juice, 1½ oz.
  • Orange juice, 1½ oz.
  • Lime juice,¼ oz.
  • Triple sec, ½ oz.
  • A dash of grenadine
  • Lemon or pineapple wedge for garnish
Directions
In a cocktail shaker, add light rum, pineapple juice, orange juice, lime juice, triple sec, and grenadine. Shake for 2 - 3 minutes for even mixing. Fill ice cubes to about ¼ - ½ of glass, and strain the drink over it. Pour dark rum on top of the concoction. Garnish with a lemon or pineapple wedge, and serve immediately.

Mango Mai Tai Cocktail

Ingredients
  • Mango-flavored rum, 1¼ oz.
  • Margarita mix, 1½ oz.
  • Pineapple juice, 1½ oz.
  • Orgeat syrup, ¼ oz.
  • Grenadine, ¼ oz.
  • 1 slice mango for garnish
  • 1 maraschino cherry for garnish
Directions for Preparation
The richness of mango-flavored rum complements margarita and pineapple juice. Add rum, margarita mix, pineapple juice, orgeat syrup, grenadine, and ice cubes in a cocktail shaker, and shake well. Then, strain the mai tai into tall serving glasses. Decorate with the mango slice and cherry, and serve.
