Easy Mahi Mahi Recipes

Mahi mahi is the common name for the yellowish-green dolphin fish. As the name dolphin fish is mistaken for the real dolphin, the name mahi mahi is used. When cooked, this fish is very delicious with a lesser degree of 'fishy' taste.
It is large with a firm white flesh and a sweet flavor. An average mahi mahi may weigh around ten kilograms. With a large forehead, these fish sport numerous colors on their body. While they are best served as fillets, there are many other ways of cooking mahi mahi.

Grilled Mahi Mahi with Lime

Ingredients
  • Mahi mahi fillets (1 inch thick) - 6
  • Lime juice - ¼ cup
  • Finely chopped garlic - 1 clove
  • Dijon-style mustard - 1 tbsp.
  • Olive oil - 3 tbsp.
  • Chopped parsley - 1 tsp.
  • Ground black pepper - ¼ tsp.
  • Salt - ¼ tsp.
How to Prepare
Season the fish fillets with salt and pepper, and keep them aside. Combine all other ingredients, and use the mixture to marinate the fish fillets, for at least an hour or two. Once done, place the fillets on the preheated grill, and cook for around six to seven minutes. Flip them and apply the remaining marinating mixture in the bowl. Let them cook for another five minutes. Your grilled mahi mahi fish is ready to serve.

Vegetable Mahi Mahi

Ingredients
  • Mahi mahi fillets - 1½ pounds
  • Button mushrooms (sliced) - 6
  • Small onions (chopped) - 3
  • Fresh lemon juice - 1 tbsp.
  • Olive oil - 2 tbsp.
  • Minced garlic - 4 cloves
  • White cooking wine - ¼ cup
  • Cornstarch - 1 tsp.
  • Water - 2 tbsp.
  • Salt and pepper - as per taste
How to Prepare
Cut the fish into strips with a length of around three inches, and season them with salt and pepper. Keep the fish strips aside. Heat oil in a skillet, and add chopped onions, garlic, and mushrooms. Cook till the onions lose color and get translucent.
Add wine and lemon juice, and cook for five minutes, with the lid on. After that, turn over the fish strips, and cook for another five minutes. Remove the fish strips from the skillet, and keep them on a warm plate. Dissolve cornstarch in water, and pour the solution into the skillet.
Raise the heat and stir the mixture till it transforms to a sauce with the desired consistency. You can serve the fish fillets with this sauce poured over them.

Sweet and Sour Mahi Mahi Recipe

Ingredients
  • Raw mahi mahi - 1½ pounds
  • Soy sauce - 3 tbsp.
  • Brown sugar - 3 tbsp.
  • Balsamic vinegar - 1 tbsp.
  • Water - 4 tbsp.
  • Grated ginger - 2 tsp.
  • Crushed garlic - 2 tsp.
  • Olive oil - 1 tsp.
  • Salt and pepper - as per taste
How to Prepare
Cut the raw mahi mahi into four fillets, and season them with salt and pepper. Mix soy sauce, water, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, grated ginger, garlic, and sugar. Marinate the fillets with this mixture, for at least 30 minutes. Refrigerate the fillets, while marinating.
Once done, take out the fish fillets. Keep aside the marinade that can be used later. Preheat the broiler, and broil the fillets for around five minutes. Turn over the fillets and broil for another five minutes. Meanwhile, boil the marinade in a skillet and reduce it to a glaze. You can serve the warm broiled fish, topped with the glaze.
