Cooking Crab Legs for the First Time

Crab legs are a delicacy in most coastal regions around the world. If you are a die-hard seafood fan you have to try crab legs at least once, and the best way to have them is to cook them at home.
Most crab legs, like those of king crabs and snow crabs, are available precooked and then frozen. All that is required is to heat up the frozen crab legs, and it is ready to eat. The Alaskan king crab is a variety of crab famous all over the globe, well-known for its juicy, succulent, sweet and mild taste.
You can eat king crab legs absolutely the way you want. If you are a beginner and cooking crab legs for the first time, start with these yummy recipes mentioned here. These recipes are easy to make and not at all time-consuming.

Grilled Crab Legs

Ingredients
  • King or snow crab legs, 4-5 lb.
  • Olive oil or butter to suit your taste
Directions: Preheat the grill to medium-high and brush it with a little olive oil or melted butter. Punch a few holes in the shells of the crab legs with a knife so that the heat from the grill penetrates, and cooks the crab legs.
Now put them on the grill with the red side facing down. Brush these legs with butter or olive oil and cook for 5 to 10 minutes by turning them upside down twice. You can have these with any sauce of your choice or plain grilled with squeezed lemon on it.

Butter and Garlic Grilled Crab Legs

Ingredients
  • Butter, 3 tbsp.
  • Olive oil, 2 tbsp.
  • Minced garlic, 2 cloves
  • Rosemary, 1 tbsp.
  • Alaskan king crabs, 2-3 lb.
Directions: In a saucepan, melt some butter with olive oil on medium flame. Add the garlic and rosemary along with salt and pepper to the saucepan.
Remove it from the heat and place the grill on medium heat and brush it with some olive oil. Place the crab legs on the grill for about 5 minutes till they are completely cooked. Keep brushing them with some butter and oil too.
Once they are cooked, place the crab legs on to a serving plate and pour the butter and garlic sauce on the crab legs. Serve it hot with some grilled vegetables if you want.

Baked Crab Legs

Ingredients
  • King crab legs, 4-5 lb.
  • Butter, 4 tbsp.
  • Lemon juice, 4 tsp.
Directions: Place the crab legs on a baking tray and brush them with butter. Punch a few holes in the shells of the legs. Place the tray in a preheated oven at 180°F and let it bake for 10 minutes. Once they are baked properly, transfer to a serving plate, and season with lemon juice and melted butter.

Steamed Crab Legs

Ingredients
  • Water, 6 cups
  • Precooked frozen crab legs, 4-5 lb.
  • Salt
  • Butter and lemon
Directions: Take water in a stock pot and boil the water on medium flame.
Add the precooked crab legs and cook them for about 5 minutes over low flame. Place a lid on the pot so that they get steamed properly. Drain off the water and serve it hot by brushing butter and lemon. You can have precooked crab legs without cooking along with butter sauce or chili sauce.

Boiled Crab Legs

Ingredients
  • Water, 3-4 cups
  • Salt or vinegar to taste
  • King crab legs, 3-4 lb.
Directions: Fill a saucepan with some water and add 2 tbsp. salt. Bring the water to boil and then add the crab legs. Punch holes in the shells and cook them for about 5 to 8 minutes over medium flame. Drain the water and serve the hot and juicy crab legs with some vinegar or sauce.
If you're cooking for the first time, nothing can be as easy as simply boiling or steaming frozen crab legs and serving them hot and yummy. You can always experiment with different spices and sauces, and make the dish as per your liking.
