Cinnamon Roll Recipe Without Yeast

Batul Nafisa Baxamusa
Cinnamon rolls are a delight to eat and are enjoyed by most people. However, many people prefer the ones that are made without yeast.
A cinnamon roll is a sweet pastry popular in North America and Northern Europe. They are also known as buns and swirls. They taste delicious and smell absolutely yummy when freshly baked and warm. You can just add some warm caramel topping to the rolls and snack on them.
These delicious rolls are basically made by dough, risen by adding yeast. Then, the sugar and cinnamon mixture is added to it and rolled up. It is then sliced and baked. The caramel topping is as mentioned earlier and the other being cream cheese frosting.
Making these sweet tasty delights, is a time-consuming process. This is because the yeast takes time to raise the dough. Here are a few recipes that do not involve yeast while preparing cinnamon rolls.

Using Buttermilk

Ingredients
  • 2 cups, flour
  • ½ teaspoon, baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon, salt
  • 1 tablespoon, sugar
  • 4 tablespoons, shortening
  • 3/4 cup, buttermilk
  • ¼ cup, sugar
  • ½ teaspoon, cinnamon
Method of Preparation
In a bowl, sift the dry ingredients and cut in the shortening. Make a stiff dough by just adding enough buttermilk. Sprinkle flour on a flat surface (like the kitchen countertop). Knead the dough lightly and roll it into a rectangle.
Baste the rectangle dough with butter and sprinkle with the sugar and cinnamon mixture. Now, roll the dough up into jelly roll-like fashion and cut it into 12 slices. Place the slices in 8x8-inch baking pan that has been brushed with butter and sprinkled with sugar. Bake at 475 °F for 15-20 minutes, until brown. Serve warm during tea time.

Roll it into a rectangle that is about ½-inch thick. Spread melted butter on the dough and sprinkle cinnamon-sugar mix. Now, roll the dough up into jelly roll-like pattern and cut it into ¾-inch slices. Place the slices in 8x8-inch pan that is brushed with butter and sprinkled with sugar. Bake for 12-15 minutes. Serve warm.

Baked with Apples

Ingredients
  • 1 teaspoon, ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup, granulated sugar
  • 1 tube, crescent rolls
  • 2 large apples (peeled, cored, and cut into 8 wedges each)
  • 2 tablespoons, melted butter
  • ¼ cup, water
Method of Preparation
Combine cinnamon and sugar and set it aside. Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into 8 triangles. Cut each triangle in half. This will leave you with 16 triangular strips.
Roll up the strip after placing an apple wedge on the wide end of each strip. Place these rolls in a 9x13-inch baking pan. Drizzle them with melted butter and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Pour water into pan, but NOT over the rolls. Bake for 30-35 mins in a preheated oven to 400 °F, till the rolls are golden brown and apple wedges are tender. Serve.
