Cayenne pepper is quite popular since they have an altogether different flavor. This spice is added to a variety of recipes for a authentic flavor.
Cayenne pepper, also known as red pepper, is mostly grown in Central and South America. Cayenne pepper, whose scientific name is Capsicum frutescens, belongs to the capsicum family and can be added to any dish to provide that extra zest.
There are many uses of cayenne pepper in cooking as a spice and as a condiment to enhance the taste of a recipe. Health-wise, cayenne pepper is rich in beta carotene, vitamins A, B complex and C. It is also an excellent source of calcium and potassium.

Peppered Shrimp Alfredo

Ingredients
  • Medium shrimp, peeled and deveined, 1½ pounds
  • Portobello mushrooms, diced, 1 pound
  • Alfredo sauce, 1 jar
  • Fresh cayenne pepper, diced, 1
  • Penne pasta, 15 ounces
  • Medium-sized onion, diced, 1
  • Grated Romano cheese, ½ cup
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, ¼ cup
  • Garlic cloves, minced, 3 to 4
  • Extra virgin olive oil, 3 tablespoons
  • Fresh cream, ½ cup
  • Cayenne pepper powder, ¼ teaspoon
  • Butter, ¼ cup
  • Freshly ground pepper, 1 teaspoon
  • Salt to taste
Preparation

Cook the pasta in a salted, boiling water for about 10 minutes and drain the water. Transfer the cooked pasta to a large plate. In a separate saucepan, melt the butter with the extra virgin olive oil, over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook, for about 2 to 3 minutes, till it turns pinkish brown in color.
Now transfer the diced mushrooms, cayenne pepper and the minced garlic into the saucepan and cook till the vegetables become tender. Add the shrimp and cook it for about 15 minutes over medium heat till the shrimp becomes pink and firm. Stir in the Alfredo sauce, cream and Romano cheese and allow it to simmer till the sauce becomes thick.
Keep stirring continuously to avoid the contents from sticking to the pan. Add the cayenne powder, pepper and salt to taste and stir. Pour the sauce over the cooked pasta and garnish it with chopped parsley leaves before serving.

Cayenne Pepper Sauce Recipe

Ingredients
  • Cayenne peppers, 5 to 6
  • Tomato paste, ½ cup
  • Apple cider vinegar, 1½ cups
  • Lemon juice, 3 to 4 tablespoons
  • Kosher or sea salt, 2 teaspoons
Preparation

Chop the cayenne peppers lengthwise after removing the stems and caps. Place the chopped peppers into a saucepan and pour the apple cider vinegar just enough to cover them.
Cover the saucepan with a lid and allow the peppers to simmer over medium heat for about half an hour to 45 minutes. Add the tomato paste, lemon juice and salt to taste and stir till they combine well.

Fettuccine with Sweet Pepper

Ingredients
  • Dry fettuccine pasta, 15 ounces
  • Reduced fat sour cream, 1½ cups
  • Red bell peppers, thinly sliced, 3
  • Vegetable oil, 3 tablespoons
  • Cayenne pepper, 1 teaspoon
  • Chicken broth, 1 cup
  • Garlic cloves, minced, 4 to 5
  • Grated Parmesan cheese, ½ cup
  • Freshly ground pepper, 1 teaspoon
  • Salt to taste
Preparation

In a large pot, boil water with a pinch of salt and add the pasta. Cook the pasta in the boiling water for about 10 minutes till it becomes soft. Drain the water and transfer the pasta to a plate and keep aside.
Take a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil, saute the minced garlic, red bell peppers and cayenne pepper for 5 minutes till the garlic turns golden brown. Pour the chicken broth and sour cream and let the mixture come to a slight boil. Remove the skillet from the heat, add cheese and stir well. Sprinkle pepper and salt and toss the pasta with the sauce.

Marinated Sliced Chicken Breast with Cayenne Pepper

Ingredients
  • Boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, 6 to 8
  • Parmesan or Romano cheese, ½ cup
  • Fresh bread crumbs, ½ cup
  • Garlic cloves, minced, 5
  • Black pepper, ¼ teaspoon
  • Olive oil, ½ cup
  • Freshly chopped parsley, ¼ cup
  • Cayenne pepper, ½ teaspoon
  • Lemon, 1
  • Oregano, ¼ teaspoon
  • Paprika, ½ teaspoon
  • Eggs, 2
  • Rosemary, ¼ teaspoon
  • Sea salt, 1 teaspoon
Preparation

In the food processor bowl, add the bread, lemon zest, herbs, cheese and paprika and process till all the ingredients are combined properly. Transfer the contents to a bowl and keep it aside. Pour the olive oil, lemon juice and garlic into the washed bowl and process till the garlic is completely minced.
Take a large bowl and place the chicken breasts in it and pour this mixture on top and allow the chicken to marinate for about one hour. In a small bowl, beat the eggs and add chopped parsley and a dash of paprika to it. Cut the marinated chicken breasts into half and dip them in the egg mixture.
Coat the bread crumbs evenly on the chicken pieces. Heat olive oil in a skillet and fry the chicken pieces till both the sides are evenly golden brown. Remove the pieces from the skillet and sprinkle grated cheese on top and serve it with sweet and sour sauce or pasta sauce.

Cayenne Pepper Liptauer Spread

Ingredients
  • Cream cheese, 1 cup
  • Unsalted butter, 1 stick
  • Dijon mustard, 2 tablespoons
  • Cayenne pepper, 1½ tablespoons
  • Radishes, for garnish
  • Salt to taste
Preparation

Take a medium-sized bowl and whip the cream cheese and butter, with an electric beater, till they combine and become creamy and fluffy. Mix the Dijon mustard, cayenne pepper and salt and whisk for another minute. Slice the radishes to desired size. Serve this spread with tortillas or crackers, garnished with chopped radish.
