Sheetal Mandora

Mango Bubble Tea

Ingredients

  • Low-fat milk, 1 cup
  • Water, ½ cup
  • Tapioca pearls, ½ cup
  • Sugar, 2 tablespoons
  • Red, black, green, or orange pekoe, 1 tea bag
  • Mango, ripe, chopped, 1
  • Honey, for taste

Procedure

As per the package instructs, cook the tapioca pearls accordingly. Also, you can boil 3 cups of water, add the pearls in, stir it, and cook for about 30 minutes. Place a lid over the pot while the tapioca pearls are boiling. Once they turn plump and soft, leave it in the pot 30 minutes. Later, scoop all the pearls out and place them in a clean bowl.
Pour couple of tablespoons of water from the pot itself. Now add 1 tablespoon of sugar and honey. Mix everything completely. To prepare the tea, take one cup boiling water and steep the tea bag for 10 minutes. Place the prepared tea in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes to chill.
The sugar and honey will keep the tapioca pearls soft till you have to use them. In a blender, add in mango chunks, low-fat milk, water (depending on how diluted you want the tea to be), and sugar. Blend the liquids till it turns into a smooth consistency. Mix the mango blend with the tea and the tapioca pearls.

Coconut Bubble Tea

Ingredients

  • Ice cubes, crushed, 1 cup
  • Black tea, 1 cup
  • Tapioca pearls, ½ cup
  • Low-fat milk, ½ cup
  • Regular coconut milk, ½ cup
  • Brown sugar, 2 tablespoons

Procedure

Boil the tapioca pearls in boiling water for about half an hour, till they turn translucent and soft. Take the pot off the heat and let them sit in the hot water for another half an hour. Drain the tapioca pearls and rinse them under lukewarm water. Place them in a clean bowl and mix in the brown sugar.
If you have enough tapioca pearls for two people, divide them equally in large serving glasses. Take a shaker and mix in the crushed ice, low-fat milk, and coconut milk. Shake the contents vigorously and pour them in the two glasses over the tapioca pearls. Serve the coconut tea chilled with large straws.

Green Tea Bubble Tea

Ingredients

  • Ice cubes, crushed, 1 cup
  • Green tea, 1 cup
  • Milk, 1 cup
  • Tapioca pearls, ½ cup
  • Honey or sugar, for taste

Procedure

Cook the tapioca pearls as mentioned in the mango recipe. Once they are chilled, pour them in a glass. Take a cocktail shaker and mix in the rest of the ingredients. Shake till everything incorporates properly. Pour the liquid in with the tapioca pearls and see if you need any more honey, sugar, or milk.

A Little Bit of History

Bubble tea is a sweet, flavored tea drink which was invented in Taiwan in the 1980s. Most recipes have been altered due to personal taste, but the original recipe is always made with a tea base mixed with some fruit or fruit syrup, milk, and tapioca pearls.
The beverage is prepared with different types of tea and ingredients depending on which country it is in. The recipe has spread throughout Canada, New York, and the west coast. It got the name due to the tapioca pearls; it looks like little drops of bubbles at the bottom of the cup.
Another interesting piece of information about this delightful tea is that it has many different names such as boba, milk tea, pearl tea, bubble drink, tapioca pearl drink, boba ice tea, boba nai cha, momi milk tea, black pearl tea, and many more.
