Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce

Bread pudding, or simply pudding, is a wonderful dessert that is usually served with different types of sauce, like caramel or whiskey sauce. This world famous dessert is easy to prepare and is sweet and delicious. You can make variations in the recipe and use your favorite ingredients.

Recipe 1: Using Simple Ingredients

Ingredients for Bread Pudding
  • Milk, 4 cups
  • White sugar, 1½ cups
  • Heavy cream, 1 cup
  • Vanilla extract, 1 tbsp.
  • Ground cinnamon, ½ tbsp.
  • Loaf bread - 1 (1 lb.)
  • Eggs, lightly beaten, 6
  • Golden raisins, ½ cup
Ingredients for Whiskey Sauce
  • White sugar, 1½ cups
  • Butter, ¾ cup
  • Corn syrup, ¾ cup
  • Whiskey, ½ cup
Procedure
To prepare this, first preheat the oven to 300°F. Take a medium-sized mixing bowl and stir together the beaten eggs and sugar. Then, add heavy cream, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and milk. Whip the mixture until it attains a smooth texture. Cut the bread loaf into 1 inch cubes.
Then, arrange these bread cubes in a medium-sized baking dish and top them with golden raisins. Pour the whipped mixture over these pieces and let the mixture get absorbed in them. Then, place them in the preheated oven for 45 minutes and bake them until they turn light brown.
Meanwhile, till the bread cubes bake, prepare the whiskey sauce. Take a saucepan and add sugar, butter, and corn syrup. Heat the saucepan over low heat and once all the ingredients melt, whisk whiskey in the mixture. Pour this whiskey sauce over baked bread cubes and your yummy bread pudding recipe with whiskey sauce is ready to eat.

Recipe 2: Using Chocolate and Espresso Powder

Ingredients for Bread Pudding
  • Semisweet chocolate, chopped, 12 oz.
  • Salt, ⅛ tsp.
  • Large eggs, 2
  • Large egg yolks, 2
  • Sugar, ¾ cup
  • Heavy cream, 1 cup
  • Instant espresso powder, 1 tsp.
  • Milk, 2 cups
  • Cinnamon, ½ tsp.
  • Loaf unseeded Italian bread, 1 (1 lb.)
Ingredients for Whiskey Sauce
  • Heavy cream, ⅔ cup
  • Whiskey, ¼ cup
  • Confectioners' sugar, 1 cup
  • Unsalted butter, 4 tbsp.
  • Egg yolks, 2 large
Procedure
To prepare this, take a large saucepan and add sugar, salt, and cream. Then, heat the mixture to boil over medium heat. Keep stirring the mixture to dissolve the ingredients properly. Then, combine chopped chocolate, espresso powder, and cinnamon to the mixture and whisk to attain smooth texture. Leave the chocolate mixture to cool.
In another large bowl, combine eggs, egg yolk, and milk. Then add the chocolate mixture to the egg mixture. Cut the bread into small cubes of ½ inch and dip them into the egg chocolate mixture. Let the bread cubes absorb the mixture for 2 hours.
Then, grease a baking dish with cooking spray and pour the dipped bread mixture into it. Take a roasting pan and pour some hot water in it and then place the baking dish in the roasting pan. Bake the bread mixture in a preheated oven at 325°F for one hour. Once the bread cubes are baked, remove them from oven and cool them over wire rack for 40 minutes.
To prepare the whiskey sauce, take a saucepan and combine, butter, confectioners' sugar, and heat the mixture over low heat. Stir the mixture to attain a smooth texture and then add whiskey. Add egg yolks and cream and keep the heat at medium level. Whisk the sauce constantly and remove from heat once it becomes thick. Let it cool for sometime and then pour it over bread pudding. In a similar manner, you can also prepare apple bread pudding with whiskey sauce.

Recipe 3: Using Irish Whiskey

Ingredients for Bread Pudding
  • Vanilla, ½ tsp.
  • Sugar, 1 cup
  • Irish whiskey, ½ cup
  • Raisins, ½ cup
  • Heavy cream, 2 cups
  • Eggs, 5
  • Custard, 1 cup
  • Nutmeg, ¼ tsp.
  • Firm white bread, 8 to 9 slices
  • Butter softened, 4 tbsp.
Ingredients for Whiskey Sauce
  • Butter, 1 stick
  • Sugar, 1 cup
  • Heavy cream, 6 tbsp.
  • Irish whiskey, ¼ cup
Procedure
To prepare the pudding, first soak the raisins in whiskey for an hour. Then, take a baking dish and grease it with cooking spray. Take a mixing bowl and blend, eggs, sugar, vanilla, spices, and sugar. Butter one side of each bread slice with softened butter and cut these slices diagonally. Place these bread slices in the baking dish in overlapping form and sprinkle the drained raisins over the bread slices. Soak the bread slices in a custard mixture for 30 minutes and then place the baking dish in water bath.
Then, place the assembly in preheated oven at 400°F for an hour. Once baked, remove the baking dish and cool the bread slices. To prepare the sauce, take a saucepan and combine butter, sugar, cream, and whiskey. Melt the butter and simmer the mixture over low heat. Pour this sauce over bread pudding.
