Recipes

The Basic Recipe

Ingredients
  • Blackberries (1 lb)
  • Fine sugar (1 cup)
  • Brandy (1 liter)
Directions
  • Wash the blackberries till they have no dirt on them.
  • Once clean, spread them out so that they dry out completely.
  • Divide the blackberries evenly and then introduce them in separate jars (the number of jars will depend on how big the jars are).
  • The jars need to be seal tight jars that close well and do not allow any air in.
  • Now, divide the sugar equally such that the same amount can be added into all the jars. Pour the sugar over the berries.
  • Pour the brandy into the jars so that it fills the jar completely. Then, close the jar shut and shake well so that all the ingredients mix properly.
  • Store the jar in an area that is dark and dry.
  • After every 2-3 days, shake the jar vigorously so that the ingredients mix well.
  • After the first week, continue to shake the jar once a week only. Do this for 8-9 weeks.
  • After the 8 weeks have passed, and the drink has been fermented enough, the blackberries need to be strained out from the jars.
  • The brandy is now ready for consumption but for an even stronger flavor, it can be allowed to steep further.

  • Water (9 cups)

  • Depending on the consistency that you're looking to get, remove from freezer and serve when it is semi-frozen and has a slushy texture.
