Cupcake Recipe

Baseball cupcakes are just like regular cupcakes. Use the simple recipe given below and then you can go about the decoration.

Ingredients
  • Flour (2 cups)
  • Sugar (2/3 cup)
  • Baking powder (6 tbsp)
  • Salt (1 tsp)
  • Shortening (1 cup)
  • Milk (2 cup)
  • Vanilla (2 tsp)
  • Eggs (4)
  • Cupcake liners
Directions
  • Get the oven preheated at 350 degrees.
  • Take a large mixing bowl and put all the ingredients except the eggs.
  • Beat this mixture vigorously for a minute (mid speed).
  • Add the eggs to the mixture and beat it again for a minute.
  • Scrape all the batter from the sides of the bowl and mix again for 1.5 minutes or till mixed properly (high speed).
  • Put the batter into the cupcake liners (2/3 or 3/4).
  • Place it in the oven for 25 minutes for baking.
  • To check if they're baked, poke them with a toothpick. If no batter sticks to it, the cupcakes are ready.
  • Let them cool down for 5-10 minutes, then you can begin decorating them with the ideas given below.

Simple Baseball Cupcakes

For this you'll need white buttercream frosting and red licorice. When the cakes are cooled down, apply the frosting generously on the cupcake. Make sure it is even from all sides. Let the frosting dry for a while. While it dries, cut the red licorice into some small pieces and some long ones.
Place the long ones side by side (but at a little distance) on the frosting. Place the small pieces along the long ones to resemble the stitches on the baseball.

Grated Coconut Cupcakes

If your kids are not too fond of buttercream frosting (as if!), you can use this other delicious alternative as a cupcake topper. You'll need fresh coconut, sugar syrup, and red icing. Grate fresh coconut enough to cover all the cupcakes that you've baked. Refrigerate it for a while.
While it gets cooled, apply some sugar syrup on the cakes. Then apply the grated coconut to cover any brown spots on the cupcake. Make stitches with the red icing.

Baseball Teams

What's your kid's favorite baseball team? Use icing colors of the team's jersey and decorate the cupcakes. You can either just write out the logo on the white frosting or write the favorite baseball players' names. This is another great idea that is sure to be a hit.

Diamond Cupcakes

The whole idea of this design is to show a diamond shaped baseball pitch on it. It's a little extra work, but it'll look great! Green frosting/icing, brown, and white icing is what you'll need. Cover the base with the green frosting. If you're using green icing, then make grass like designs all over the top of the cupcake. Then, using the brown and white icing, make a diamond shaped pitch on the green frosting/icing. Add M&Ms if you wish to show players.

Bat and Ball

You can get small edible bats and baseballs from a bakery. Cover the cupcake with the frosting color of your kid's choice. Then place the edible bats and balls alternatively on the cupcakes in the tray.

Player Cupcakes

Make an entire baseball pitch in the tray using different food items. Draw out faces of baseball players on the cupcakes or simply write their names on the frosting. Fill the tray with green jelly. Add candy laces in brown or chocolate licorice to outline a pitch. Place the cupcakes in positions resembling an ongoing game. Watch this yummy treat disappear in minutes!
I hope you're not still worrying about how to surprise your son on his birthday. Use any of these simple and fun ideas for baseball cupcakes and your kid's birthday party will be a sure hit! They'll be talking about it for days!
